Event Calendar – Emergency Management
The city of Seattle Office of Emergency Management provides free classes on how to retrofit your home. Each month, these classes are taught by very knowledgeable and experienced instructors who have been in the industry for several years. Since it’s inception in 1998, Roger Faris (FEMA) has taught these home retrofit classes and helped launch the Seattle Project Impact Earthquake Home Retrofit Program. Bruce Schoonmaker – has also instructed these classes for nearly two decades while also owning a reputable retrofit company.

This provides information on how to complete an earthquake retrofit per “Project Impact” standards for wood-framed residential buildings that meet certain criteria.
Standard Earthquake Home Retrofit Plan Set (SEHR)
In 1998, the City of Seattle developed a pre-engineered set of plans designed for homeowners to retrofit their own homes. These plans are called “Project Impact” or “SEHR” (Standard Earthquake Home Retrofit). If your home qualifies and meets all the criteria, it eliminates the need to hire an engineer (which lowers the cost of the project); provides a fast-track permitting procedure to accomplish the retrofit work; and offers training for both homeowners and contractors.
